The COPA Teen Dance is in its 68th year, continuing a remarkable tradition that brings together more than 1,000 teens and over 300 adults from across the country for an elegant, elevated, and unforgettable evening.
What began as a special gathering has grown into a signature Jack and Jill event- one that teens eagerly anticipate each year. The teens of the Metropolitan Chapter proudly produce and host the event, giving them the opportunity to lead planning, organizing, and execution on a large scale while making a meaningful impact in their community.
The COPA Teen Dance is about much more than a memorable evening. It gives teens hands-on opportunities to build leadership, teamwork, financial literacy, event management, communication, professionalism, and civic responsibility. Through the planning process, teens learn how to work collaboratively, manage budgets, communicate with vendors and adults, coordinate logistics, and create an experience for more than 1,000 guests. They gain confidence by taking ownership of significant responsibilities and learning how to turn an idea into a successful, large-scale event.
The philanthropic component is equally important. Proceeds from the event benefit local nonprofit organizations selected by the Metropolitan Chapter teens. By researching community needs and voting on the organizations they believe most deserve support, teens learn the importance of thoughtful philanthropy and the responsibility that comes with giving back. They see firsthand how their hard work can translate into meaningful resources for organizations serving their community.
Over the years, the COPA Teen Dance has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local nonprofits, including The Boys and Girls Club Harlem, Harlem Grown, and Metropolitan's own BOOST Scholarship, demonstrating the tremendous impact that young people can have when given the opportunity to lead. The event teaches teens that leadership is not simply about being in charge-it is about working together, serving others, making responsible decisions, and creating lasting change.
The COPA Teen Dance represents nearly seven decades of tradition, but its greatest legacy may be the young people it continues to develop. Each year, a new generation of Metropolitan Chapter teens learns to lead with purpose, serve with intention, and build upon a tradition that has brought families and communities together for generations.
